Risia to be updated with latest version of mod 8 tomorrow morning

Risia Update: 6:00 AM - 12:00 PM Eastern (-4 GMT) Tuesday, October 14th

The Risia Preview Server will be brought down on Tuesday, October 14th from 6:00 AM - 12:00 PM Eastern (-4 GMT) to update it to the current version of Module 8. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your patience!

News Items for 2008-10-12

  • Tolero has indicated that mod 8 for Risia is a possible go for Monday, and that she is inclined to release the notes on Monday either way.
  • Friday’s reboots have caused serious lag on several servers, with Argonesson, Ghallanda and Sarlona appearing to be worst hit. Tolero started posting last night and has been giving regular updates as to the search for the cause. So far there is no resolution.
  • The lag on Argonesson has caused some unusual behavior in the shroud, with some people reporting that the Pit fiend has a new ability called mindfire, an AOE atack that dispells all buffs on those around him. Tolero has confirmed that Friday’s reboot contained no changes to the game.

Tomorrow’s hotfix has been postponed, and will take place at a later date. Enjoy your game time tomorrow

Risia update info #DDOUS

Tolero was kind enough to give me some information on the update that is scheduled to come to Risia next week. The update will not be a feature-complete version of Mod 8.  Instead it will include the New Player Experience and the Hireling mechanics.  This was done so that it could be released sooner so that those more risky mechanics could be tested by a larger population, as well as to make sure that the players didn’t get side-tracked by the new high-level content.  Like previous updates, the high-level content is planned to be made available on Risia closer to the release of Mod 8 for it’s own wide-audiance testing.

She also said that Mod 8 is still on track, and barring any unexpected issues creeping up on Risia, is scheduled to be released in mid October.

New Prestige Enhancements Announced

Eladrin has discussed some of the plans to add new lines of Prestige Enhancements into the game.

Currently the plan for Fighters is (Dwarven) Defender, Kensai, and Purple Dragon Knight.

Yes, originally I had PDK listed as a Paladin one, but they went Defender of Siberys (Sealtiel), Knight of the Chalice, Hunter of the Dead. Purple Dragon Knight fit the fighters better as we started working on it.

Note that all of these are inpired by Prestige Classes in D&D 3.5.  The Dwarven Defender appears in the Dungeon Master’s Guide, the Knight of the Chalice appears in the Book of Exhalted Deeds, and the rest appear in the Complete Warrior.  For those in the US, here’s the forum post.

[Update]

Eladrin went on to clarify some questions:

I’d expect most of them to go Kensai.

Quote:
Kensai could be good for TWFs if you use two of the same weapon (though, it’ll probably be just like DDO’s feats — applies to one damage type rather than one weapon type).

Kensai is likely to be weapon specific, like the M8 Improved Weapon Specialization set of fighter enhancements.

Well, methinks there’s a reason Eladrin put Dwarven in parenthesis when he posted.

Like Arcane Archer, the Defender will not be restricted to one race (nor will they be alignment restricted). Dwarves are likely to be able to take it regardless of class, however, if they meet the other prerequisites.

These prestige enhancements are being built on the M9 timeframe.

Status Update on Features Mentioned for Mod 8 and 9

I have sent and received some info on some of the things that had been mentioned to be coming for Mod 8 and 9.  Here it is:

Ustice - Has [crafting] been shelved, or will we see more of it coming to Mod 8 and Mod 9? Reports seem conflicted at this time.

Tolero - The more “full” crafting system won’t make its debute until later, but do expect some more rituals to do in 8, which are similar in nature to what players are already used to (stones of change, alters of fecundity, etc) but slightly different. That’s all the details I can give about it at the moment.

Ustice - It was mentioned previously that PvP will be getting an overhaul for Mod 8/9. Is that still being worked on, and is there anything that you can tell me about it?

Tolero - We’re exploring the possibility of more PvP features, but it won’t be until we go to Shavarath… the “plane of battle” and we’re currently targeting the trip to Shavarath in Mod 9, as we’re re-visiting the Stormreaver story arch in 8 to give us a little break from lawful evil outsiders hehehe.

Ustice - There were Paladin spells, enhancements, and of course the Holy Avenger mentioned previously as being in development. Can you tell me when we can hope to see these features added to the game?

Tolero - I believe those are still on target for 8

Some Details for Wednesday’s Update

Towards the end of the day Tolero started releasing some early information on this Wednesday’s update.  While some of the details are still a bit sketchy, and we do not as of yet have a “First Look” or “Release Notes” for this update (Release Notes are expected around the time of the update).  The main servers will be brought down from 6 am - 12 pm for the update, while Risia will be online durring that time. At this time, there is not word on when Risia will recieve this update, or if it has already.

Here are the issues that are supposed to be fixed with this patch:

  • Casting more than one blade barrier will no longer cause monsters to become immune to blade barrier. [link]
  • Using Divine Light no longer causes a Ki error message to appear for Clerics. [link]
  • Barbarian’s Critical Rage fixed and set for levels 11 and 14 [link]
  • Way of the Assassin II special attacked working as intended [link]
  • Friend’s List fixed [link]
  • The full inventory banking bug is fixed [link]
  • Moving items to and from bags by dragging them will be possible again [link]
  • Tome pages, and shield pieces should be able to be moved back to the inventory.

As you can see, this is a pretty large patch which fixes an array of issues, and despite its size, it is seperate from the summer update that we have heard about so hopefully we will hear more about that soon.  Until then, we will be getting more formal information on this patch on Wednesday.
