I’m (Ustice) Retiring from DDO Reports, and I Need a Replacement

Just over 2 years ago, the DDO Community was in crisis with the end of the WDA, and Turbine’s info stream still on lock down for the (then unknown) relaunch as DDO:U. Information was available through various sources, but there wasn’t one single source where you could find all of the DDO News of the Day. People were upset, frustrated, and left with few options.

It was at this time that I said to myself, “Someone needs to do something about this,” and then my next thought was, “I can do it.” Thus DDO Reports was born. My goal with DDO Reports was to provide a single-source of breaking DDO News as it breaks, and I think that I was pretty successful. It now has (at the time of posting this) 538 followers on Twitter (and to give a scale to that, @DDOCast has 410 and @TurbineTolero has 187), and I don’t even know how many people who subscribe to the RSS feed.

Now, two years later, the Community has expanded to levels I would have never thought possible at the start of this project, and the community resources have expanded along with it. Also, Turbine has really been great at getting out info early and often. As a result, I have felt more and more that I have been just reposting from the Dev Tracker, with fewer real external sources of info needed.

Also, as I had announced recently my son, Perrin, was born, leaving me less time be able to maintain my level of involvement that I previously have. I know that the quality of the posts from DDO Reports have suffered as a result. Therefore, I think that it is time that I retire and pass on the torch to someone who has more time and energy for the Community.

So, if you have enjoyed the information that DDO Reports has provided over they years, and want to see if continue, don’t just say to your self, “Someone needs to do something about this,” instead step up and say to yourself (and to me), “I can do it.” If you have the time, energy, and interest, please send me an email at ustice@ddoreports.com (or a PM here) and let me know. This is your chance to give back to the Community. If you are already combing the internet for news on DDO, then you are already doing 90% of what I do.

I plan on sticking with DDO Reports until I can find a replacement, and should my replacement want, I could even stay on as a contributor or even continue to provide Admin support. Once I find a replacement it will be up to them if they want to take over the domain and hosting, or just keep it with me (where I am committed to keep it active).

It really has been a pleasure serving you, and I will still be an active part of the DDO Community. I hope to hear from a host of volunteers, and I will see you around the forums.

New Member of the Team (ArkoHighStar)

DDO news can happen any time, and sometime it is hard for one person to catch it all.  There have been a few times where I was not able to get the information our as fast as I would like, or things that I missed.  Now, I am happy to say that that is a lot less likely now.  ArkoHighStar has done a great job in pointing out bits of news and helping me serve the community, and now he will be doing so in a more official capasity.  I am pleased to say that he has officially joined DDO Reports.

With his help, you can now look forward to even more up-to-date news.  Welcome to the team, Arko!

Twitter tags

DDO Reports is about getting the DDO news how you want it, and as of today, I am starting a new policy to make that even easier.  On each of the tweets that I make, if it is specific to a specific server set I will be adding a tag for that group. Here is the list of tags and the server group that it represents:

  • #ddous – United States
  • #ddoeu – Europe
  • #ddojp – Japan
  • #ddocn – China

Using this, and Twitter’s advances search, you can even create custom feeds.  Tired of reading DDO Japan news (I don’t know how you would be, since I still don’t have a contact that can read Japanese. Know anyone? :) ) you can go into the advanced search and find messages from ddoreports that do not include #ddojp.

If you are interested in this, but are not sure how to set up a search, either send me a tweet, or an email, and I will help you subscribe to just the information that you want.

Planned Site Outage July 11, 10:00 – 10:30 pm.

Our hosting service will be undergoing maintance tomorrow, July 11, from 10:00 to 10:30 pm.  The twitter page will still be availabe, as well my email if you need to send me some information.

A New Look for a New Home

If you are used to typing in http://ddoreports.com and seeing the Twitter page, then were in for a shock today.  The first version of the page is now online using WordPress.  With this page I will not only be able to use twitter to post news items, but also bring you more in-depth reporting on some of he major stories.  The page is still in a state of flux, as I have ideas or get suggestions for features for the site I will be making changes.

So, if you have any ideas on what you would like to see for the future of DDO Reports, please let me know.
